Blue Moon Is Here!

When Blue Moon arrives at the shop, it's always the highlight of my month. These boxes mean a lot of work, but a lot of fun! We love carrying local yarns in the shop, and I think Blue Moon is the highlight.

Locally hand dyed in Scapoose, OR the colors can't be beat and have fantastic names like "Frankenhen" "Awesomesauce" and (my personal favorite) "Tardis Blue".

The UPS guy has to deal with me excitedly asking, "Are all those for me?!" Sorry, UPS guy. I love Blue Moon day, and you get to share in the excitement.

As I unbox it, our table slowly disappears. This month's shipment brought in some more of my favorite fibers - Luscious Single Silk (a wool/silk blend), Twisted, and Woobu. Woobu is Blue Moon's shimmery wool/bamboo blend.

All of them look amazing and it's hard to resist the urge to just dive in. I think my favorite color to come into the shop is the Luscious Single Silk in Awesomesauce - I'm plotting a big herringbone cowl out of that.
Of course, no unboxing would be complete without the before and after shots.

Before...

 And after!

Shop Spotlight: What's on the front table this week?

If you've been into our shop in the last few months, you may have noticed our rotating display table at the front of the shop. We use this table to spotlight a technique, book, or product that we have in the shop we think you'll love.

Our spotlight this week is kits!

Everything you need to make a project in one small box. We have knits for knitting, crocheting, needle-felting, knooking (That's a post of its own!), and some simple sew and stuff kits!

If you've been curious about needlefelting, we have Dimensions Needlefelting kits available. These kits come with everything you need to get started - roving, molds, a needle, and an instruction booklet.  Make a monster or a pony!

We also now have create-your-own learn to knit or crochet kits. The kit includes a copy of the TNNA How To Crochet or How to Knit booklet, needles or a crochet hook, and one hank of Berroco Vintage your choice of color. The Knitting Kit is $26.99, the Crochet Kit is $21.25.

Welcome to the Coastal Yarns blog!

This page will update every Tuesday and Thursday with information about what's new in the shop, what we're focusing on this week, and will share some inspiration for the yarns we all work with and love!

Today I'm taking you on a quick tour of the shop, back to front! Our store has two sets of "Dutch" doors - on nice days, we keep the top half open. In this image you can see our sale shelf and knitting corner.

We have comfortable seating in our teaching/workspace for knitters and non knitters all week long. If you come in on a Friday evening, you'll be able to meet our local, open knit group. We're open late on Fridays (Until almost 9:00!) and the group is open and free to join. Come on in and knit with us!

More seating and magazines, plus lots of gifts for knitters! We have people come into the shop who have traveled to Ireland! They're always surprised and pleased at our range of "Wacky Woolies" mugs - sheep and knitters, we just go together!

We're waiting on a shipment of Blue Moon fiber arts, but we still have lots of gorgeous hand-dyed sock yarns. Here's just a taste of what we have in stock today - Socks that Rock Medium and Lightweight by Blue Moon, Sock Candy, and Madelinetosh Sock.

On one side of the shop we keep our wool-free blends, for our customers with sensitivities to wool (or those who just want a nice linen/silk blend for warmer weather knitting!) We carry Sirdar baby yarns, and have many of their pattern booklets as well!

On the other side of the shop are wool blends, alpaca, and our local hand-dyed selections! We carry several types of Blue Moon Fiber Arts, as well as alpaca yarns from farms local to the Pacific Northwest!

Hope to see you soon!
